Abstract

In a relationship, we know healthy love and unhealthy love, therefore there are types of love. Basically, parents and children have an emotional bond, including a boy with his mother. Yet, there are conditions when a boy develops a taste for and has a sexual attraction with his own mother. This condition is known as the Oedipus complex. Oedipus complex is one of Sigmund Freud's psychoanalysis concepts. This study aims to analyze the character of Stephen who suffers from Oedipus complex. Object of this research is "Shut In" movie by Farren Blackburn. This research approach is qualitative. This research uses showing and telling methods to analyze the data. The result of my analysis are Stephen is a boy with Oedipus complex, a big lier who jealous, possessive, and murderer. Stephen's love to Mary is only mania love that full of jealousy, possessiveness, and extreme actions that end in tragedy.
