Abstract

This research aims to analyze to analyze the flouting of maxims in Knives Out movie script, Knives Out is the movie wrritten by Rian Jhonson, its a movie about a detective who solvinng a death of the famous novel writer Harlan Thrombeys, this paper mostly discuss about the flouting of maxims, by use Paul Grice’s theory of cooperative principle in analyzing the the types of flouting of maxim in the movie. Through an qualitative approach since in this research used content analysis were the data or the utterance from the dialog between characters that containing the flouting of maxims. The result of the research show that fisrt how the data of flouting of the maxim analyze, the second after the flouting data analyze the four types of flouting maxims are flouted in knives out movie which are maxims of quantity, relevance, quality and manner, the third from the types of the flouting of maxims the maxims of quantity is the most frequently maxim that appear in knives out movie.
