Abstract

This research aims to analyze trauma that leads to death instinct in a movie script using intrinsic and extrinsic approaches. The intrinsic approach uses to analyze data such as: Characterization, Plot, and Setting. Through the extrinsic approach uses to apply the concept of trauma and death instinct that appear in this movie script. The qualitative approach used in this research, types of library research, interpretative analysis use the method of data collection from the literary texts from the movie script All the Bright Places by Brett Haley as a primary source and supported by some related previous studies, books, theories, and journals as secondary source. The result of this research are trauma leads to death instinct. This movie script is about two people, Theodore Finch and Violet markey who have a past-trauma. Finch has a trauma from being abused by his father physically and emotionally, then his father marry another girl. The trauma is getting worse when his mother needs to work for their living and left her children without mother and father figure. Violet Markey feels guilty after the car accident that makes her sister died. It traumatized her until she is being a totally different person. In this movie, the consequence of those events and trauma, they lead to death instinct and ended with tragedy.
