Abstract

Language is a medium for human to express themselves and convey their ideas. People may also use language to communicate their feelings, emotions, express their thoughts, convey what is on their minds, and many other things. The purpose of this study is to identify the utterances based on five types of language style employed by the main character in “Raya and the Last Dragon” movie script. The object of this study is Raya and the Last Dragon movie script written by Qui Nguyen and Adele Lim. The data used in the research are the utterances between the main character and other characters in the movie script. This study employs a qualitative approach with qualitative descriptive methods to describe the data findings more thoroughly. The result of this study is that Raya or Sisu uses four out of the five types of language styles with the total of 47 data. The most common language style employed by the main characters is the casual style found in 26 data. Then followed by 15 data of consultative style, 5 data of intimate style, and lastly 1 datum of frozen style. It can be concluded that the types of language style that mostly appear in “Raya and the Last Dragon” movie script is casual style and consultative style. As well as social factors that influence it are participants, topics, settings, and functions.
