Abstract
This thesis aims to analyze the characterization of the character Anthony in the film The Father by using several theories in the literature review. The theory in the literature review used to analyze the character is the theory of denial and delusion defense mechanisms. This research uses a qualitative approach. The research object in this thesis is the script of the movie The Father, written by Florian Zeller. The research data in this thesis is collected from the conversations of several characters in the script of the movie The Father. The results of this study are the denial found in Anthony's utterances with several characters in the script of The Father with the denial of self-rejection of old age shown in his stubbornness and anger. Furthermore, the delusion found in Anthony's utterances with several characters in The Father script is the self-denial of oldness shown in his paranoid and confused nature. Therefore, I made this research with the intention of showing how the nature of denial leads to delusions in elderly people.
