Abstract

The objective of this study is to analyze the movie script of Doctor Strange in “The Multiverse of Madness (2022)” written by Michael Waldron using the theory of psychology. This study used a theory of five stages of grief known as DABDA, which was popularized by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross and David Kessler to analyze the grief in the antagonist character, Wanda Maximoff. The study focuses on navigating Wanda Maximoff's grieving phase, which continued after the past events in the previous series, WandaVision (2021). Wanda had to go through the stages of grief, from denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and lastly, acceptance, over the loss of her children, Billy and Tommy. This study used qualitative and narrative analysis approach to examine Wanda’s grief through an intrinsic approach, characterization, plot, and setting, aligning with the extrinsic approach of KüblerRoss’s five stages of grief theory. The data collective techniques used through the note-taking methods. Thus, the result showed that Wanda’s continued grief has made her go through the denial phase to the acceptance phase again during her relentless pursuit of reuniting with her alternate children in another universe. Wanda reflects on denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance.
