Abstract

This research aims to explore figurative language types in song lyrics “ASTROWORLD” by Travis Scott through the application of semantic theories. Theories from semantics are employed to analyze the true meanings and symbolic language found in Travis Scott's album "ASTROWORLD. " The approach used in this research was qualitative. A descriptive qualitative method is applied in its implementation. The lyrics from Travis Scott's album "ASTROWORLD" be the subject of examination. The album "ASTROWORLD" supplied the lyrics utilized for the collected research data. I have studied examples of figurative language types, including metaphor, simile, personification, and metonymy. The 52 examined data items are categorized by type. 18 instances of metaphor, 13 instances of simile, 15 instances of personification, and 6 instances of metonymy. Metaphor and simile are the most common types of figurative language, while metonymy is the least frequent. The true significance of each piece of data becomes easier to understand after through analysis. The songwriter intended to convey themes through the album, including his personal experiences, a mixture of childhood joy, nostalgia for his hometown, and Travis Scott's selfdiscovery as an artist. Attraction between partners, the longing to be with one another, profound love, and close relationships.
