Abstract
This paper discusses the theme of the novel. Two approaches, intrinsic and extrinsic approaches, were applied to analyze this novel. The concepts used to analyze through intrinsic consist of characterization using the method of showing and saying plot and arrangement. The concept for analyzing through an extrinsic approach is Jen's theory of fear and guilt. This research explains Jen's concept of fear and guilt, because of the disappearance of her daughter named Lana. As well as its relationship with other intrinsic elements. In this study, the novel “Whistle in the Dark” is the main source and is supported by several theories, concepts, definitions that are relevant as secondary sources.
