Abstract

This thesis aims to analyze the film "The Devil All The Time (2020)" by Antonio Campos and Paolo Campos by using an intrinsic and extrinsic approach. The intrinsic approach used to analyze the data is the character's character, plot, and setting. Meanwhile, trauma and deviation theology as extrinsic approaches were used to analyze the data. This research approach is carried out with a qualitative descriptive method because the results of the data analyzed are in the form of film scripts that describe words, sentences, and language. The object of this research is the film "The Devil All The Time" by Antonio Campos and Paolo Campos. The theory and concept that I use in this film is a literary approach using the showing and telling method, character traits, plot, and setting with the concept of a literature psychology approach. In this thesis, the main focus is on reflecting on the trauma and theology of deviation felt by the main character Arvin in the film “The Devil All The Time” by Antonio Campos and Paolo Campos. The image of the trauma that his father accidentally passed on to Arvin made him reluctant to pray anymore and be close to God. Then there are religious leaders who are supposed to provide examples of good behavior taught by God to their congregations but instead take advantage of their position for sexual matters that they do to church girls in the name of God.
