Abstract
This study discusses Manchester by The Sea movie script by Kenneth Lonergan. Tells the story of a man who is 40 years old, named Lee Chandler. He feels guilty for the deaths of his three children caused by fire incident that accidentally he did in the past. The guilt that haunts Lee Chandler make him doesn't want to be tied to anything that related to his past. Especially when his older brother, Joe Chandler died, which forced Lee to return to Manchester. Lee‘s name written on the will that he will be guardian for Joe‘s son, Patrick Chandler. This study uses an intrinsic and extrinsic approach. The intrinsic approach uses characterization, plot, and setting. The extrinsic approach uses psychology of literature with the concepts of guilt. This study uses a qualitative approach, with data collection techniques including library research, observation, and note-taking methods. With a primary source in the form of Manchester by the Sea movie script, and secondary sources by several literatures to supported several theories, concepts, and definitions.
