Abstract

This term paper discusses about the analysis of the process in finding sexual identity and factors that influnce to be gay. The aim of this study is to explain the process of finding sexual identity experienced by Chiron in Moonight by Barry Jenkins, based on the factors that influence him to be gay. Identity is an understanding of oneself. In this analysis I use identity confusion, at this stage an individual begins to realize and believe that his behavior can be defined as homosexual, and there are also two factors that influence the main character to be gay, unfavorable environment factors and family environment factors. I use qualitative methods to analyze the process of finding sexual identity and the factors that influence to be gay. The data analysis of this research is based on the life experience of Chiron, Chiron realizes that he is gay. But he just kept it to himself until he grew up. The factors that influence Chiron to be gay are unfavorable environmental factors, because since childhood Chiron has been called gay, making him think about his sexual identity. And also Family environmental factors, where the role of parents is very influential on the formation of their child’s sexual identity, but the parents figure in Chiron’s life makes him to be gay.
