Abstract

This study describes the semantic relationship that can be called the cohesion between the construction of the text and its relationship with other constructions. There are two types of joins: grammatical joins and lexical joins. Vocabulary cohesion can be achieved by selecting vocabulary. The first objective of this research is to find out what types are contained in Ariana Grande's lyrics in the Positions album. The second objective is what the lexical cohesion function is used for. This study uses a qualitative approach and uses Ariana Grande's song lyrics. This album contains 14 songs. To conduct this research, the researcher uses the lexical cohesion theory of Halliday and Hasan (1976). This includes restatement (repetition of words, synonyms or similar synonyms, high-level words, and repetition of common words) and collocations. The results of this study indicate a re-description of all types of lexical cohesion and do not analyze lexical collocations in the lyrics of the album Position Ariana Grande. Furthermore, the function of lexical cohesion in the restatement of Ariana Grande's song lyrics is to describe, emphasize, strengthen, and contribute the message of words with interrelated meanings to articulate the song. This study will help future readers and writers analyze lexical cohesion
