Abstract

This study focused on determining the types and meanings of slang language. The types of slangs were analyzed in “Raya and The Last Dragon” movie script. Theories used in this research were Allan & Burridgeto (2006) and Eric Partridge (1950) about the types of slang language style and Geoffrey Leech (1982) about the kind of slang language. This study was conducted using a descriptive qualitative method. The way to collect the data are; watching the movie, reading the movie script, marking the words and sentences, identifying and classifiying data. The data were from a movie script entitled “Raya and The Last Dragon” in the year of 2021. After conducting the analysis, this study showed that there were four types of slang language based on Allan & Burridgeto (2006) theory, i.e. fresh & creative (4), flippant (5), imitative (17) and clipping (9) and two types of slang language based on Eric Partridge (1950), i.e. public house (2) and society slang (14. There were two kind of meanings found in this movie script, i.e. social meaning (1) and conceptual meaning (15). Imitative and society slang were found as the most dominant types of slang language in the movie script with 17 and 14 data, also conceptual meaning as the most dominant kind of meaning with 15 data. Finally, the reseacher hopes that this study will be useful for the future studies, especially about slang language.
