Abstract

The song is a piece of art that has been extensively analyzed. It is because the song has an essential role in society, whether to express an idea, share information, entertain or persuade people’s thoughts. This study examines the discourse aspects of Ghost's Prequelle album's song lyrics. However, this study aims to analyze textuality by applying Beaugrande & Dressler’s Seven Standards of Textuality theory and speech act theory. This study combines qualitative research and interpretative analysis using texts from the Prequelle album song lyrics as the primary source. It is supported by a collection of literary works, concepts, and definitions as the supporting source. Based on the study analysis, the main theme of Prequelle is the Black Death. This album is about surviving a period in which your life is threatened, as well as the themes of death and doom and those who would survive. As a result, there was a great sense of urgency, and the Prequelle record is mainly about death but eventually about survival. Even though it is set in the Middle Ages, Prequelle clings to many recent things; in this case, it references Tobias Forge's (songwriter and Ghost mastermind) lawsuit against him. Thus, it is necessary to know essential aspects to comprehend the song's meaning and the writer's intention.
