Abstract

This study aims to analyze movie script using the illocutionary in speech act. The background of this research is speech act as one of the courses that must be taken by English Education students. This study aims: 1). What are the utterances classified as illocutionary acts found in “Spider-Man No Way Home” (2021) movie script? 2). What is the impact of the use illocutionary acts in utterances in “SpiderMan No Way Home” (2021) movie script? This study uses a qualitative descriptive method. The data is obtained from the dialogue by the characters in the “Spider-Man No Way Home” movie script. All data are classified based on John R. Searle's theory of illocutionary acts. After analyzing the utterances in “Spider-Man No Way Home” (2021) movie script, the results of this study indicate that: first, there are five kinds of illocutionary act uses by the characters that is representative, directive, commissive, expressive, and declarative. In this research, I have found out 45 utterances which are included into the kinds of illocutionary act expressed by the characters in “Spider-Man No Way Home” (2021) movie script. Based on the research findings above, I have found out 11 utterances of representative, 10 utterances of directive, 8 utterances of expressive, 10 utterances of commissive, and 6 utterances of declarative. Representative is the most dominant types of illocutionary. Declarative is the rarely used in this research. Second, I found the impact from the utterance who use by the character in “Spider-Man No Way Home” (2021) movie script.
