Abstract
The Screaming Statue novel by Lauren Oliver, takes place in the museum in New York City, America, named Dumfrey’s Dime Museum of Freaks, Oddities and Wonders, where in the museum there are four main children who have the special power. They are Max, Pippa, Sam and Thomas and the owner is Mr. Dumfrey. This research will reveal the characterizations from each character in this novel. The analysis in this research is affected by two concepts, intrinsic and extrinsic. From intrinsic, the theme will correlate to characterization, setting and plot. Meanwhile, from extrinsic, this research uses psychoanalysis of literature under circumstances of Archetypes by Carl Gustav Jung, by Astrological influences concept. This research is using the literary works as the main source, supported by other guidance books and references as supporting research. Key Words : Psychology of Literature, Archetypes, Astrology Novel The Screaming Statue karya Lauren Oliver yang bertempat di museum di New York City, Amerika, yang bernama Dumfrey’s Dime Museum of Freaks, Odditioes and Wonders, dimana di museum tersebut ada empat tokoh utama anak-anak yang mempunyai kekuatan khusus. Mereka adalah Max, Pippa, Sam, Thomas dan pemiliknya bernama Mr. Dumfrey. Penelitian ini akan mengungkapkan sifat-sifat dari masing-masing karakter dalam novel ini. Analisis dalam penelitian ini dipengaruhi dua konsep, yaitu intrinsik dan ekstrinsik Dari segi Intrinsik, tema penelitian akan di kaitan dengan unsur perwatakan, latar dan plot. Sedangkan dari unsur ekstrinsik, penelitian in menggunakan kajian psikologi sastra dalam pendekatan arketipe oleh Carl Gustav Jung, dengan konsep pengaruh astrologi untuk menganalisis karakter dalam novel. Jenis penelitian menggunakan teks karya sastra sebagai sumber utama, didukung oleh buku panduan dan referensi lainnya sebagai penunjang penelitian. Kata Kunci : Psikologi sastra, arketipe, astrologi
